What goes in Poland on 30th of December?

Miner unions in Poland to block coal deliveries

The Polish Coal Group (PGG) unions announced that they have not reached any deal on wages with the board of this company, which is the biggest coal producer in Europe. They are planning to block coal supplies to Polish power plants on the 4th of January.

The miners have promised not to block the deliveries if they reach a deal on higher wages (from average PLN 7829 to 8200 gross) and compensation for working on weekends between September and December 2021.

Rising energy prices will fuel inflation

According to the Polish National Central Bank, the climbing energy prices will be responsible for half of the inflation rate in 2022.

Average inflation in 2022 is to reach 7,6 percent in comparison to the average 5,1 percent in 2021 in spite of government’s intervention called an anti-inflation shield, that includes  decreased excise and VAT tax on energy and natural gas, as well as subsidies for the poorest households.
