New Polish-British tech cooperation project

The British royal couple Duke William and Duchess Kate visited the Heart business incubator at the Warsaw Spire high-rise in Poland’s capital, where they learned about the dynamically developing sector of technological companies and start-ups. During the meeting a new technological cooperation project between Warsaw and London was presented. Its goal is to support companies in using the British capital’s potential in the process of their international development.

In 2040 over 50% of cars to be EVs

In 2040, 54% of new cars will run on electricity predicts Bloomberg New Energy Finance in its latest report and points out that the current forecast is 19% higher than the one published last year. BNEF says that the total sale of cars will be at 120 million a year at that time – 50% more than it predicted last year.

According to BNEF, the increasing sales of EVs will be caused by a drop in their price. The cars will be getting cheaper because the battery price will plummet. As of 2010 until now the price of a lithium-ion battery per 1 kWh dropped by 73%, i.e. about USD 270. Analysts are expecting that by 2030 it will go down by another 70%, i.e. USD 73.

Polish nuclear energy almost here?

The Energy Ministry is getting ready to announce its decision on the schedule and financing of the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant.

The upcoming decision will be made by the ministry. Once it’s made the government will discuss the directions of nuclear energy development in Poland. It is said that three units will be constructed. The project will be financed with domestic funds.

It is estimated that the power plants may cost PLN 6 billion per one unit. The domestic financing means that state-owned institutions will have to be engaged, i.e. PZU, the Polish Development Fund as well as PGE as the investor responsible for the project.

Deposits for plastic bottles?

The Ministry of the Environment is considering the introduction of deposits for beverage containers. This is yet another idea to limit the amount of trash.

The companies are saying that package waste is only 15% of the total amount of garbage. However, the supporters of this solution stress that beverage containers are easy to include in a deposit system because they are highly standardized.

According to experts the main burden of introducing the system would be placed on stores.
