Sobolewski: Nuclear power still depends on politicians. Elections first

During the ExpoPower conference organized at the Poznań International Fair, a panel dedicated to the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant took place. Director of the Nuclear Energy Department at the Ministry of Energy Józef Sobolewski took part in it.

He pointed out that investing in atom would improve Polish energy security, reduce emissions, lower energy prices and contribute to scientific development related to this energy department. He added that the Polish power plant should use the best available technologies in the world.

He said that the Ministry of Energy would care that the financing of the nuclear project would not burden the budget too much. He also announced a two-stage tender: first for technology, then the final investor will be selected. – I hope that around 2029-2031 the first block will be connected to the network. It all depends on political decisions – he stressed.

Sobolewski stressed that the nuclear power plant will give Poland independence and energy security. – It is also important due to the European Union requirements for reducing greenhouse gas emissions – he concluded.

According to BiznesAlert.pl, a decision on the future of the project was postponed at the government’s meeting regarding the atom for the period after the local government elections.
