What goes on in Poland on the 21st of March.

PGNiG books the capacity of the gas terminal in Lithuania

The Poles first cleared the gas pipeline from Lithuania and have now booked the capacity of the terminal in Klaipeda. They will be able to use it to import up to a fifth of what they brought from Russia in the face of the invasion of Ukraine.

Gaz-System has invested in the Poland-Lithuania gas pipeline to import up to 2 billion cubic meters annually from May 2022. It has been also revealed that the Polish PGNiG has reserved the capacity of the LNG terminal in Klaipeda, i.e. a floating FSRU storage and regasification unit. „PGNiG has reserved regasification capacity in the LNG terminal in Klaipeda,” the company confirms in response to an enquiry from BiznesAlert.pl, but did not provide the date or volume of the reservation.

Deliveries via Lithuania are another potential source of supplies to replace imports from Russia. Poland planned to end the Yamal contract with Russia’s Gazprom in 2022 and not sign a new one. However, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the gas transmission may be cut off faster due to an embargo that may be imposed by the European Union or an incident related to military operations. Therefore, Poles took a number of actions to prepare for such a possibility, including the faster launch of the Poland-Lithuania gas pipeline.

Polish Nuclear Power Plants came to Kashubia to talk to local governments about the construction of the nuclear power plant

On March 18, in Wejherowo, trilateral talks were held on the future of the region in connection with the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant.
