What goes on in Poland on the 20th of May.

PGNiG does not maximize the Baltic Pipe contracting to have a choice

PGNiG unveils the cards on the contracting of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. It intends to fill it in more than half, i.e. 4.5 out of over 8 billion cubic meters capacity reserved on the pipeline with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters annually. They leave themselves room for maneuver with the rest of the power.

– We like our own production the most and we have about 3 billion cubic meters of it on the shelf annually. It is possible that this is not our last word. We have communicated a long time ago that we will reach 4 billion cubic meters in 2027. We are not only waiting for production to increase by itself. It will reach at least 4 billion cubic meters. We also talked about the contract with Lotos and Orsted. It will be 4.5 billion cubic meters in total – said the vice-president of PGNiG Robert Perkowski in response to the question from BiznesAlert.pl. – Why are we not filling it all? If we used each interconnector in this way, we could double the amount of gas imported to Poland in relation to the needs. Diversification is also the ability to choose, not to use one direction to the maximum, but to leave some space to take advantage of the opportunity while securing the demand.

– I do not see the need for the Baltic Pipe to be used to the maximum. We have a secured portfolio – added the vice president of PGNiG. In his opinion, record prices may also lower the demand for gas in Poland.

Poland is tightening energy cooperation with Ukraine

Yesterday in Kiev, Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa met Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Julia Swyrydenko, and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Strilts Ruslan. The talks focused on Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in the field of energy and climate protection, as well as Ukraine’s inclusion in the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The meeting of Minister Anna Moskva with Ukraine’s deputy prime minister was an opportunity to continue the talks initiated at the beginning of May during the “Polish-Ukrainian Energy Forum” in Warsaw. Yesterday’s talks were related to the tightening of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in the energy sector. It is to take place at the government level and between companies present on the markets of both countries – informs the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

– We hope that the solutions worked out today, during the ongoing war, will serve us in times of peace. We will cooperate in the field of energy transmission between our countries, as well as in the reconstruction of Ukrainian energy infrastructure, said Anna Moskwa.
