Poland and the EU will discuss Ukraine and Nord Stream 2

The Minister of Climate and Environment, Anna Moskwa, flew to Brussels, where the Extraordinary Council of Energy Ministers of the European Union is going to hold a meeting. – We are ready to cut off from gas supplies from Russia. We will be calling for a complete stop of the Nord Stream 2 project, Germany is talking about a suspension, but it is not enough, she said.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell called an extraordinary meeting of Community defense ministers. – Today I am calling a meeting of the European Union’s defense ministers to discuss the latest situation in Ukraine in connection with the attack by Russia. We will discuss further needs and coordinate assistance, Borrell said on Twitter.

Just before the departure, the Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa held a press briefing during which she spoke about the goals of the Polish delegation. – Today the Council of Ministers was convened as a matter of urgency. We will talk about Ukraine and the current situation related to the war. Poland is constantly offering to coordinate assistance to Ukraine, also in the energy sector. This will be the main message of our visit, we want to ensure Ukraine’s energy security, she said. – The European Union is planning to prepare an aid fund, also for energy purposes. We support this coordination, we are talking to the majority of European countries so that the solidarity of the European Union is preserved – she emphasized.

– The plan of the European Union is further independence from raw materials from Russia. We are ready for this plan and cut off from gas supplies from Russia. We will be calling for a complete stop of the Nord Stream 2 project, Germany is talking about a suspension, but this is not enough. I will talk to Robert Habeck, about this project. We are also talking about Nord Stream 1 – said Minister Moscow.

Anna Moskwa also referred to the LNG infrastructure in Europe. – The EU has neglected the LNG infrastructure for years, Poland has done otherwise. Now we can see a tendency, European countries want to go in this direction – she emphasized. The minister was asked about gas supplies from Russia to Poland. – Raw materials from Russia flow to a limited extent. There were no supplies from the Yamal pipeline in January, and in February they were very limited. We are ready to cut off from Russian gas, if necessary, she stated.

Poland also wants to call for Russia to be excluded from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). – We will apply for the exclusion of Russian workers also from the IAEA – she said. – In Brussels, Poland will support the synchronization of the Ukrainian system with Europe. We are talking to other countries to convince them. We want to support full synchronization of the Ukrainian system – she added.

– Apart from Ukraine, we also want to discuss the issues of climate policy. We do not need gas from Russia to transform, we are also willing to wait for the available Polish and European technologies. Our energy is energy independence from Russia. We are open to transformation, but we will call for the suspension of the EU ETS until the end of the global energy crisis, said Minister Anna Moskwa.
