Oil from outside Russia for Orlen rather from Iran than the USA
During the press conference of PKN Orlen dedicated to the results of the group from the first quarter of 2018, the topic of diversification of sources of crude oil supplies appeared. The PKN Orlen representative referred to the BiznesAlert.pl question about whether his company will bring more oil from the USA.
– We watch urgently the directions from which we can import oil. Not so long ago, we worked almost entirely on Russian oil, and today it is about 70 percent. We are interested in the Middle East directions, they give us great opportunities, first and foremost diversification and increased energy security of the state. This is of great importance because it is known that the basic raw material is crude oil – said the representative of PKN Orlen.
– If you look from the perspective of supplies from the Middle East, Iran is in our mind. Iranian oil is a little lighter than Russian, but it is similar to the REBCO mix, which is mainly processed in our refineries – said Protasewicz. He did not address the question of the BiznesAlert.pl journalist about political threats related to the risk of resuming US sanctions against that country.
– We had one delivery. Oil from the USA still needs research. It’s a complicated process. We would have to blend this oil to get the best parameters – pointed out Wiesław Protasiewicz from Orlen.
Duda: Poland and the USA together against Nord Stream 2
Power engineering is one of the pillars of cooperation between Poland and the United States. Both countries are in favor of the diversification of sources and suppliers of energy resources and are critical towards the construction of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, said President Andrzej Duda during the opening of the Polish-American Economic Summit.
– Energy is one of the main elements of cooperation between Poland and the USA. This is one of the priorities of the Polish authorities. I am pleased that we similarly perceive the issues of energy security, which we base on the diversification of sources and suppliers as well as strengthening the potential of our own extraction. Despite the LNG terminal in Świnoujście and the implementation of the Baltic Pipe project, we must continue our efforts to make our region free of supplies from one direction – he said.
President Duda emphasized that Poland and the United States have a critical view of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. – This project undermines the energy solidarity of Europe and increases dependence on one supplier. Poland and the United States are consistently in favor of real diversification of sources and suppliers as well as ensuring energy cohesion in the region. That is why energy issues are also one of the three pillars of the Three Seas Initiative – said President Duda.
