MWC19-3506

What goes in Poland on 9th of February?

Poland wants to have cleaner air

Thousands of administrative districts in Poland signed deals with regional environmental authorities – WFOŚiGW – on cooperation in the Clean Air program.

The Clean Air program is purported to be the biggest environmental program in Poland. It devotes PLN 100 bn zł (over EUR 20 bn) until 2029 to transforming the household energy and heating sectors, insulating buildings and other means of reducing air pollution, which is a burning issue in Poland. As part of the program, subsidies paid to those who are willing to exchange their furnaces can reach as much as PLN 37 thousand (almost EUR 10 thousand).

China – Central and Eastern Europe summit with 5G in the background

The online 17+1 summit is to be held on the 9th of February with the participation of the Polish president Andrzej Duda, who will talk about opening the Polish agricultural market to imports from China.

The talks on cooperation between CEE states and the Middle Kingdom are held on Xi Jinping’s invitation. However, their atmosphere will be charged after the U.S. accused the Chinese of organizing genocide against the Uyghur people, and using their involvement in developing 5G networks for spying.
Poland is to amend its state cybersecurity act to be able to ban companies because of foreign and security policy considerations. It is said that such a regulation could hit Huawei’s potential engagement in the Polish 5G sector.
