Polish Briefing: Sejm accepted the bill on capacity market

What goes on in Poland on the 7th of December.

Another oil delivery from the US for Lotos

LOTOS has bought another delivery of American oil. A tanker transporting 650 thousand oil barrels is going to arrive in Gdańsk oil terminal. It is an element of Lotos’s consequent strategy of diversifying supply sources.

In each case the decision of resource purchase is conditioned by technological and economic efficiency. Currently every fifth oil barrel in Lotos’s Gdańsk refinery comes from a different direction than Eastern.

The tanker has departed the Freeport harbour near Houston, Texas. The transport is expected to arrive in Gdańsk in the middle of December.

For the Gdańsk company, it is the second transport from the US. Lotos imported 600 thousand barrels from the US in November and 700 thousand barrels from Canada in September.

Sejm accepted the bill on capacity market

243 MPs voted for the bill, 181 were against, 7 abstained from voting. The voting was preceded by a heating debate, during which the opposition MPs stressed that accepting the bill will raise the costs of electricity.

– After two years of Law and Justice (PiS) ruling in energy area, taxes are raised significantly. Fee for renewables and transition fee have raised. Capacity market is a solution that will harm 17 million receivers, including 14 million individual receivers – said Andrzej Czerwiński from the Civic Platform (PO). He added that the people will pay additional PLN 30 billion until 2030.

According to Mieczysław Kasprzak from Polish People’s Party (PSL), the bill on capacity market is a „draconic bill, which will formally raise electricity prices. Experts expect 20-30 per cent raise. It will harm households, farmers and energy-intensive industry. According to the sector representatives, this bill may contribute to its fall”.
