Polish Briefing: The energy strategy is almost ready. Waiting for the nuclear power?

What goes on in Poland on the 18th of May.

The energy strategy is almost ready. Waiting for the nuclear power?

– The new version of energy policy, in the new time domain, is being prepared. However, there are still a few key elements missing – said Piotr Naimski, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure in the Sejm.

A joint meeting of the Energy and Treasury Committee and the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and Forestry took place in the Sejm. Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Piotr Naimski presented the assumptions of the bill amending the act on investments in the area of the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal in Świnoujścieduring the first reading.

– The new version of energy policy, in the new time domain, is being prepared. I can say that the new version of energy policy is almost ready, there are several elements necessary to announce it and present it in its entirety, and this is the intention of the Minister of Energy, Krzysztof Tchórzewski. These necessary, few but very important elements will be decided in the coming months – said Naimski.

During the discussion, MP Krzysztof Gadowski from the Civic Platform pointed out that the talk about amending the regulations should start with the presentation of the gas strategy in Poland. Piotr Naimski agreed with this position and mentioned that a special session of the Energy and Treasury Committee would take place soon, during which a gas strategy would be presented and a discussion would take place.

Tauron will not withdraw from the nuclear project

Tauron remains a shareholder of the company responsible for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland – said the president of Tauron, Filip Grzegorczyk to journalists.

Let us remind you that during the 10th Economic Forum in Katowice, the minister of energy, Krzysztof Tchórzewski, stated that Tauron will not participate in the implementation of the nuclear project. – On the corporate level, the minister’s statement can be explained in that we learned about the approach of the dominant shareholder to the issue of Tauron Group’s involvement in the continuation of this undertaking – said CEO Grzegorczyk.

At the same time, he stressed that in the intra-corporate sphere there were no actions and changes that would require communication.

Asked by the BiznesAlert.pl journalist whether or not Tauron will remain a shareholder in PGE EJ1, he said yes. – As of today, we have a certificate of our dominant shareholder, which, of course, we take seriously into account. We have 10 percent of shares in the nuclear project, i.e. unchanged. I will not speculate how long this state will last. Tauron did not make any requests in this regard. The minister is responsible for energy policy, not the company. We will always adapt – announced the president of Tauron
