The Ministry of Climate and Environment wants to introduce regulatory sandboxes to increase energy innovation

The Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ) presented the concept of regulatory sandboxes, which is to improve the functioning of the energy and gas market in Poland. It consists in creating a safe legal space for testing and implementing new technologies.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment states that the purpose of the draft amendment to the Energy Law and the Act on Renewable Energy Sources (UC74), currently at the stage of public consultations, is to introduce innovative solutions necessary to improve the functioning of the energy and gas market in Poland. According to the ministry, the development of the sector will accelerate, among others the concept of the so-called regulatory sandboxes, i.e. a safe legal space for testing and implementing new technologies, services, products, systems user cooperation models or technological solutions.

– Regulatory sandboxes will contribute to the promotion of new solutions on energy markets and tests of their effectiveness. Projects implemented as part of sandboxes should bring tangible benefits to the energy transformation – says Michał Kurtyka, Minister of Climate and Environment.

The amendment to the act on the capacity market will result in lower energy prices

The Ministry of Climate and Environment informs that the amendment to the act on the capacity market, announced on August 17, introduces a change in the method of calculating the capacity fee, which is paid by entrepreneurs using energy. In this way, they finance subsidies for conventional energy supported by capacity market auctions.

The amendment adjusts the level of the power fee rates to the energy consumption profile, rewarding customers with a flat consumption profile, who maintain low daily fluctuations and move the consumption beyond peak hours, contribute to the stabilization of the system – explains the Ministry of Climate in response to BiznesAlert.pl. – Reducing the peak demand means lower demand for power in the auctions, which in turn translates into a lower cost of the capacity market. At the same time, this solution will support energy-intensive consumers, who are generally characterized by a stable energy consumption.
