What goes on in Poland on the 19th of August.

The tenth round of talks between Poland and Czechia the Turów Mine took off

Poland and Czechia are returning to talks about the Turów Mine. The meeting started today at 9.00 – informs Polish Radio.

This is the tenth round of negotiations between Poland and Czechia regarding Turów. – For over two months, the parties have been working on the final shape of the intergovernmental agreement on mining in the mine. Its signing is to lead to the withdrawal of the lawsuit against Poland, which the Czechs have filed with the Court of Justice of the European Union, reports Polish Radio.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Paweł Jabłoński summed up the recent talks. It is still difficult to say how long these negotiations will take, he said. – Each process of this type is lengthy due to its complexity. I do not want to promise any specific dates, but with each subsequent round of talks we are a little closer – said the deputy minister.

Sanation in Sierra Gorda and news from KGHM about the atom and hydrogen in September

The President of KGHM, Marcin Chludziński, told BiznesAlert.pl about the rehabilitation process at the Sierra Gorda mine in Chile and analyzes of the possibilities of using nuclear and hydrogen technologies by this company.

– A lot of work done for three years and the previous management board, the work of teams in Poland and Chile, the rehabilitation of this project is beginning to bring results – said the president of KGHM Marcin Chludziński. He admitted that in the original assumptions made by the previous authorities deciding on the purchase of the Sierra Gorda mine in Chile, they assumed a return much earlier. Only the optimization of work, supported by higher copper prices, resulted in this effect in the first half of 2021.

– Since these several billion invested so far will not give this effect, then the next ones may not help either and should be approached from a different angle – explained President Chludziński. – Our actions bring effects and the stream of money returns to Poland – he added.

– The price of copper supports us and it would be unwise to say that it is not, but that is not the only factor. When the copper price did not support us at all in 2020, we showed increases at Sierra Gorda, the president of KGHM said.

KGHM announced that it is interested in new technologies in the energy sector: offshore wind energy, small nuclear reactors and hydrogen. – These are the directions we are currently analyzing. In September, we will return to the market and share our findings – assured Chludziński.
