The construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland is a huge challenge, which will entail the expansion of roads, ports and the railway network in Pomerania. The government is already developing a program to make the region a new energy hub of the country.

On July 19 at the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ) and the Gdynia Maritime Office signed a cooperation agreement, which results from the government’s adoption of the Program for Supporting Infrastructural Investments in Relation to the Implementation of Key Energy Investments in the Pomerania Voivodship.

The aim of the program is to support infrastructure investments in the amount of PLN 1.03 billion for the construction of national roads, PLN 2.83 billion for the construction of railway lines and more than PLN 907 million for the development and construction of hydrotechnical facilities.

Improving infrastructure is crucial for the construction of the first nuclear power plant. This will help in the supply of construction materials, as well as accelerate the receipt of special nuclear installations. Importantly, these projects will also attract more investments and improve local communication.

„We are consistently working to build the first nuclear power plant in Poland, which will cost PLN 100 billion, while all offshore projects will cost PLN 60 billion. We are also rebuilding the power transmission system. Pomerania is becoming a new energy center of the country,” said Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.

„Infrastructure investments will also have to be rebuilt. Pomerania is a great construction site,” she added.

„The government is pursuing an ambitious development policy. We need energy and infrastructure investments, which are the lifeblood of our economy. It is important to us that we continue to be the great construction site of Europe. In the coming years, we will allocate 4.7 billion for road and rail investments for network development and maritime investments,” emphasized Andrzej Adamczyk, Minister of Infrastructure.

„Pomerania is changing and will become an energy center of Poland, which will benefit local residents. These investments will create more jobs in the region and change the face of the whole country, ” said Piotr Müller, government spokesman.

„We’re not worried about the implementation of these investments. We have at our disposal EUR 500 million for investments for the port of Ustka as an offshore farm service centre. Most ports in Pomerania will be able to service offshore wind farms,” said Marek Gróbarczyk, Plenipotentiary for Water Management and Investments in Maritime and Water Management.

An important project will also be the construction of a special section of a road that will connect the first nuclear power plant with the road network in Pomerania.

„We intend to build a new road that will connect the nuclear power plant with the road network in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in order to improve commuting. This investment will also serve local residents,” said Rafał Weber, Secretary of State at the Ministry of infrastructure.

„Recently, the process of building the first nuclear power plant has accelerated. We are getting closer to an environmental decision. Thanks to all infrastructure investments, we will be able to pick up all kinds of necessary equipment for the construction of power plants,” emphasized Łukasz Młynarkiewicz, the acting President Of Polish Nuclear Power Plants.
