Rau: President Biden’s administration is aware that Nord Stream 2 divides the EU and NATO
The US still views Nord Stream 2 as a harmful and bad business for Europe; President Joe Biden’s administration is aware that this project divides the European Union and NATO, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau.
Zbigniew Rau took part in the talks of EU foreign ministers on Monday in Brussels. The topics were, among others EU relations with Russia.
The minister of foreign affairs stressed that the NATO has long perceived Russia in its doctrine as the main threat. – It will certainly be emphasized in the administration policy of President Joe Biden. We can expect that. The US administration still perceives Nord Stream 2 as a harmful, bad business for Europe. This means that the American side is aware that this project is dividing the European Union, dividing NATO, but also dividing individual Western societies – he said.
In his opinion, however, it is unlikely to convince the Germans to abandon the project. – It seems that the discourse on Nord Stream 2 in Germany had a period of intensification after the poisoning attempt by Alexei Navalny. Now it is weakening again. As a result, most will not be convinced by the issue of the harmfulness of Nord Stream 2 in Germany, he noted.If former politicians in Germany find employment in Gazprom structures, these are business practices that cannot inspire confidence – he added.ufania.
