Polish Briefing: “The nuclear is necessary in Poland”

What goes on in Poland on the 26th of June.

“The nuclear is necessary in Poland”

At the press conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin and President of the Polish Energy Group Wojciech Dąbrowski referred to key issues for the Polish energy sector, such as the construction of a nuclear power plant.

– We see an energy mix with the nuclear. The nuclear project is expected to start generating power in 2033. The visit of President Andrzej Duda in Washington confirms that the strategic partner in the construction of the atom will be the United States and companies with American participation. This also applies to capital involvement. We want the nuclear to be built by a special purpose vehicle directly under state supervision, it is not a task for energy companies. We will soon find out and let you know who the partner will be. The total investment in the energy sector, including the nuclear, is PLN 400 billion. We mainly count on external financing; it is also a matter of further talks with the US and capital participation from that country – said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin.

– The nuclear is essential for safety. PGE will end its participation in the location and environmental decision. We can’t handle this project alone. This should be a government project. Next year, we expect environmental decisions regarding the Polish nuclear power plant – said the president of Polska Grupa Energetyczna Wojciech Dąbrowski.
