What goes on in Poland on 8th of December.

SMR quicker than a big nuclear reactor?

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved the first of many licensing topical reports for the BWRX-300 small modular reactor form GE, which is a major milestone for the new technology. According to the company, BWRX-300 could be supplied to Poland even before 2033, when the first large-scale nuclear reactor in Poland is to be completed.

GE is in talks with a Polish chemical company Synthos on providing Poland with this technology. BiznesAlert.com asked the company about the opportunities of SMRs in Poland. The first BWRX-300 reactor is to be built in North America by 2028.

According to the Polish Nuclear Energy Program (PPEJ), the first big-scale nuclear reactor is to be built by 2033. The Polish government is in talks with Washington on a financing scheme involving a technological partner from U.S.

Orlen buys local media agency

Poland’s oil giant Orlen bought Polska Press, which owns over 20 regional newspapers in Poland.

Polska Press was bought by Orlen from Germany’s Verlagsgruppe Passau Capital Group. The goal is to create “a flexible, personalized and comprehensive offer to satisfy Orlen’s customers” by acquiring access to 17.4 million Polska Presse web portals users. According to the company, the transaction would optimize its marketing costs and allow it to further expand its big data tools.

The acquisition brings up the discussion on Polish media “repolonization”, which is one of the most important postulates on the ruling party’s platform.
