Tchórzewski: We should either be helped or not be expected to transform quickly

– Poles want energy transformation, but they do not want social stratification to happen. If we went in the direction desired by ecological organizations, we would have to deal with increases in energy prices, along with other products – said Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchórzewski at the New Industry Congress.

Polish pace of transformation

– Energy transformation is reflected in the discussion in the European Commission. We are completing work on the National Plan for Energy and Climate and Poland’s Energy Policy until 2040. In a democratic state, it is difficult to talk about far-reaching investments, because you have to look in the longer run than the next election. Our neighbors were given a gift of nuclear power plants, in Poland there was resistance and the authorities decided that this type of technology would be too dangerous here. We must either help us or not expect quick changes – said Krzysztof Tchórzewski.

– We make a huge effort ourselves. We discuss with the European Commission, defend the participation of renewable energy sources in our energy mix and prepare programs that will go towards expanding them. We cannot go towards renewable energy without facilities in the form of conventional sources. We aspire to a group of wealthy countries that implement renewable sources, but this must be an evolutionary path. The restructuring of the mining industry is a huge cost that can be carried out in various ways. We must do it with social consent – the minister of energy emphasized.
