The European Commission gives the green light to the Polish offshore support program
In line with EU state aid rules, the European Commission has approved the Polish offshore wind energy support program. This measure will help Poland meet its renewable energy targets without unduly distorting competition, the Commission explained.
Vice-President of the Commission Margrethe Vestager, responsible for competition policy, stated that the Polish program was a very good example of how the competition policy can enable member states to support renewable energy projects such as offshore wind farms. “It encourages enterprises to invest in such ecological projects in which they would not have invested without support. We hope to see many such initiatives in the future that contribute to the EU’s Green Deal without unduly distorting competition in the single market,” she said.
PGNiG cuts the doubts of the Russians. There will be no new Yamal contract
PGNiG denied Gazprom’s claim that the Polish company was to hold talks with the Russian tycoon regarding a new gas supply contract.
PGNiG stressed that it was not holding talks with Russia’s Gazprom on a new gas supply contract. Earlier, the head of Gazprom Export, Elena Burmistrova, said that talks about a new gas supply contract with Poland were continued. Vice-president of the Polish company, Przemysław Wacławski, confirmed on Biznes24 that PGNiG was not in talks with Gazprom regarding a new gas contract. “The information from the media is surprising,” he said.
PGNiG imports approx. 10 billion cubic meters of gas under the Yamal agreement, a long-term contract with Russia’s Gazprom that expires at the end of 2022. The Polish company announced earlier that it did not intend to extend it.
