The social agreement may be signed this week

This Friday, a social agreement on the transformation of the mining industry may be signed. This date was proposed by the Ministry of State Assets. Details will be known when all unions that participated in the negotiation of the agreement are ready to sign the document, reports the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

The initialing of the social agreement, which sets out the rules and pace of the gradual liquidation of the steam coal mining industry and the mechanisms to support the transformation of Silesia, took place on April 28, 2021 in Katowice. It was then agreed that the statutory bodies of the trade union organizations participating in the negotiations were to approve the document before its final signing. Recently unions agreed to sign the deal last week. Earlier, representatives of both parties declared that the document would be signed before the end of May.

The head of the Silesian OPZZ, Wacław Czerkawski, said that on Tuesday trade unions received information from the Ministry of State Assets that the signing ceremony was to take place this Friday afternoon in Katowice. „As OPZZ, we are ready to sign the contract on Friday afternoon,” Czerkawski said in an interview with PAP.

Solidarity announces a demonstration in Warsaw

Trade unions are organizing a protest that will take place on June 9 at noon in Warsaw. „We will want to visit the seat of the European Commission representation, Prime Minister Gowin, and the Ministry of State Assets, which is responsible for the mess in the energy sector. We will also not forget about the Chancellery of the Prime Minister,” Jarosław Grzesik, chairman of the National Secretariat of Mining and Energy, NSZZ Solidarność said in an interview with nettg.pl.
„For many months we have been dealing with a complete lack of dialogue in the fuel and energy sector. The only manifestation of any social dialogue is a social agreement, but it was forced by the miners who started an active protest,” Grzesik added.
