During the Tusk-Zelensky talks in Kyiv energy was one of the topics. “There is nothing more important for both nations and Europe than using our energy potential to the fullest,” the President of Ukraine said.

The Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk visited Kyiv, where he talked about cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the security sector and foreign policy in relation to the invasion of Russia. However, President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted at a press conference that energy was also one of the topics.

“There is nothing more important for both nations and Europe than using our energy potential to the fullest, so that we can create the right energy infrastructure,” Zelensky said.

The Poles have been holding talks with the Ukrainians since last year on the construction of a second energy bridge from the nuclear power plant in Rivne to Chełm. There is already a Rzeszów-Khmelnitsky line. Talks are ongoing on a long-term gas supply agreement to Ukraine, which would justify infrastructure investments in Poland. A second FSRU vessel is being considered to import LNG for the needs of neighbors, including Ukraine. The Ukrainians are also seeking the resumption of the Odessa-Brody-Gdańsk oil pipeline project, and the Poles are talking about a fuel pipeline for the needs of the Ukrainian war machine. Polish businesses are also in the game for participation in privatization (e.g. heating, fuel sector) and energy transition of Ukraine, to which other EU countries, such as Germany, apply.
