The energy sector reaches for gas. „We want more than 27 bcm annually”

The energy sector reaches for gas for various reasons, the more important are the goals of the PGNiG Group. The risk of gas supplies from the east has always been high, and following governments did not want to accumulate these fears – said  the CEO of PGNiG Piotr Woźniak at the 11th European Economic Congress.

PGNiG’s CEO admitted that the company was working a bit longer on its strategy, but at the time PEP2040 had not yet been published. – After the publication of PEP2040, we did not find any contradiction between our strategy and the government’s plans. The fact that such a document is needed is undisputed to us, although what we have found there is beyond our ambition. In 2040, 27 billion cubic meters of gas will be consumed in Poland and we would like it to be much more – said Woźniak.

– The energy sector reaches for gas for various reasons, the more important are the goals of the PGNiG Group. The risk of gas supplies from the east has always been high, and following governments did not want to accumulate these fears. This is not about the direction, but about partners. Now we can plan much easier. Whoever claims that Poland is independent of gas supplies is mistaken; we do not have enough sources to be independent. We must have reliable business partners, and we partly have them. After 2022, our situation will be much better, because then our contract with Gazprom expires. From now on, LNG will be imported to Świnoujście, we are building a gas pipeline, first of all they will be Norwegian sources. We gain new concessions in the North Sea. We want to pump that gas to the Baltic Pipe – said Woźniak.

– Everyone makes corrections in the strategy, even though its goals are timeless. The terms are faint and the goals should be implemented. The strategy will not need to be radically changed after we leave the office to our successors. When it comes to gas extraction in the country, we did not expect that we would face such difficulties when receiving a concession. We control these deposits fully, there is no reason for any interruption in supplies. Therefore, breaks in the granting of concessions are unacceptable. We expect the parliament to organize the concession issues so that they are unambiguous for all companies – said the president of PGNiG Piotr Woźniak.
