What goes on in Poland on the 7th of July.

ZE PAK is considering the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Kaliningrad Oblast

ZE PAK is analyzing, together with partners, the investment in a nuclear power plant under construction in the Kaliningrad Oblast. It is also considering participation in other foreign nuclear projects and in the construction of a power plant in Poland, informed Tomasz Matwiejczuk, spokesman for Zygmunt Solorz-Żak, the majority shareholder of ZE PAK.

” ZE PAK is considering many options, including participation in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland from scratch, which is likely to take many years. Another option could be a capital investment in foreign assets. One of the options is a potential capital commitment, along with other renowned and experienced partners in this area, in the nuclear power plant already under construction in the Kaliningrad Oblast. So the point is that Polish capital could take part in the investment in a nuclear power plant outside Poland. However, building a connection between Poland and the Kaliningrad Oblast would only be possible if ZE PAK had capital control over the investment,” the company’s press release said.

On Monday, Polityka Insight announced that ZE PAK and the Hungarian MVM have a plan to build a nuclear power plant in Kaliningrad, Russia. Matwiejczuk said that ZE PAK, like state-owned energy companies, must undergo an urgent transformation, including abandoning fossil fuels. The company was considering various options for this purpose, including investments outside Poland in cooperation with foreign partners.

These options include projects in European Union countries, talks with American companies, as well as the concept of taking over the already advanced construction of a nuclear power plant, the statement said. “Without nuclear energy, the Polish energy sector may practically not survive. Renewable energy sources are able to provide a certain amount of energy, but nuclear power could become a stable source of clean and cheap energy,” he added.
