Via Carpatia and Baltic Pipe for North-South integration

Minister Tchórzewski said that the North-South axis is economically important for the integration of the European Union. – Via Carpatia and Baltic Pipe are investment corridors and tools to implement the energy diversification plan, in order to become independent from Russian supplies.

On Tuesday (September 25) the Sejm hosted a meeting of the General Committee on Economic Affairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative with the participation of the Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński. The meeting was important for the further development of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative. Leading subject: „Infrastructure, road and energy connections, in the region of the Central European Initiative on the North-South axis, with particular focus on the Via Carpatia road project”. Introductory speeches were presented by: energy minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski, minister of infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk and director of the Museum – Łańcut Castle Wit Karol Wojtowicz.

New investment corridors

Minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski pointed to the economic importance of the North-South axis. He stressed that Via Carpatia as well as the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline are investment corridors and tools to implement the energy diversification plan, in order to become independent from Russian supplies. Both investments will serve to strengthen the integrity and unity of the European Union. The launch date of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline designated for the autumn of 2022 is realistic, the project is far advanced. This is indicated by the recent talks that took place in Denmark, said energy minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski on September 25th.

He reminded the importance of this investment: Baltic Pipe is a strategic infrastructure project that aims to create a new gas supply corridor for the European market. The investment will ensure the transport of gas from Norway to the Danish and Polish markets, as well as to customers in neighboring countries. The Baltic Pipe system consists of five elements – a combination of the Norwegian system in the North Sea with the Danish system, extension of the gas transmission route through Denmark, construction of a gas compressor station on the Danish island of Zealand, a submarine gas pipeline from Denmark to Poland with a receiving terminal, and the development of the Polish system Establishments for this bus will amount to approx. EUR 1,6 billion, jointly built by the gas transmission system operators – Polish Gaz-System and Danish Energinet. The Polish operator is responsible for investment tasks worth EUR 800 million. Gas transmission by the main (with a capacity of 10 bcm) Is to start in the autumn of 2022.
