Li Hui, China’s special envoy and former ambassador to Russia, plans to visit five countries, including Poland. The diplomat will hold talks on ending the war in Ukraine, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a news conference that Beijing’s special envoy’s trip to Europe shows „China’s commitment to promoting peace and talks.”
„As of May 15, Ambassador Li Hui, special representative of the Chinese government for Euroeasian affairs will start visits to Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany and Russia to communicate with all parties on a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
„China is ready to continue to play a constructive role in building greater international consensus on a ceasefire, ending the war, starting peace talks and avoiding escalation,” Wenbin said.
Beijing is distancing itself from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is providing Moscow with political and propaganda support. However, at the end of April, Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time held a conversation with the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on ending the war and starting negotiations, which was considered a breakthrough in the policy of the Middle Kingdom.
