The Ministry of Climate and Environment is waiting for municipalities that are interested in the construction of a radioactive waste landfill. The plant is to be part of the accompanying infrastructure for the first nuclear power plant in Poland. Applications can be submitted until June 30, 2024.

The Ministry of Industry will manage not only mining in Upper Silesia, but also energy resources and nuclear policy – said Minister Marzena Czarnecka during the opening of the Ministry in Katowice. Meanwhile, Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ) and Poland’s first nuclear project in Pomerania are still managed by the plenipotentiary who works in Warsaw.

There is a heated debate in the EU on the role of nuclear power in the energy transition in the coming years. Support from the European Investment Bank (EIB – ed.) is necessary for key challenges, i.e. energy transition and nuclear power, as well as giant investments in the defense industry – admitted Finance Minister Andrzej Domański in a press release. He stressed that it would be particularly important for Poland to use all available financial instruments.

The Prime Minister of Poland confirmed the will to continue cooperation on large – and small-scale nuclear energy projects with the participation of businesses from Canada, despite his earlier criticism of the Orlen and Synthos projects.

„Poland has very ambitious plans about building nuclear power plants. We should stop waisting time on discussions about the financing model for the nuclear project, so this issue needs to be resolved without further delay,” says Wojciech Wrochna from the Kochański&Partners law firm.

„We will definitely be able to manage a third nuclear facility in the country, and Poland’s energy needs clearly show that another nuclear power plant will be needed,” says Adam Rajewski from Nucler PL in an interview with BiznesAlert.pl.
