On 25 July 2019 the Governor of the Wielkopolskie Province issued the location decision for the expansion of the Odolanów Compressor Station. The investment will be located in the Wielkopolskie Province, Ostrów Wielkopolski District, Odolanów commune. Obtaining the location decision by GAZ-SYSTEM for the last such facility in the Polish part of the Baltic Pipe Project means moving on to the process of obtaining construction permits for all the three compressor stations.
The investment consists in the expansion of the present compressor station and transmission hub in Odolanów and connecting these elements with the existing transmission infrastructure.
The expansion of the Odolanów Compressor Station will increase Poland’s energy security and improve functioning of the Polish transmission system which will receive additional gas loads after the extension of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście and the construction of the Baltic Pipe offshore pipeline.
Now GAZ-SYSTEM holds all the location decisions for compressor stations within the Baltic Pipe Project. Other decisions that have been obtained are:
– the Location Decision for the construction of the Gustorzyn Compressor Station (within the framework of the GIPL project) issued by the Governor of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province on 19th July 2019.
– the Location Decision for the expansion of the Goleniów Compressor Station issued by the Governor of the Zachodniopomorskie Province on 26th June 2019.
Baltic Pipe is a strategic project aimed at creating a new natural gas supply corridor from Norway to the Danish and Polish markets and to the end-users in the neighbouring countries. The implementation of this investment will strengthen the energy security of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe and will contribute to the increased competitiveness of the Polish gas market.
The pipeline will enable transport of 10 bcma of natural gas to Poland and 3 bcma from Poland to Denmark. The construction stage is anticipated to start in 2020 so as to enable the import of natural gas from the gas fields in the Norwegian Continental Shelf starting October 2022.
The project is being implemented in close cooperation between GAZ-SYSTEM (the Polish gas transmission system operator) and Energinet (the Danish operator of the gas and energy transmission systems).
The Baltic Pipe project in Poland comprises 5 elements: the construction of the gas pipeline connecting the offshore pipe with the national transmission system, the construction of the Goleniów-Lwówek gas pipeline, the expansion of the Goleniów and Odolanów Compressor Stations and the construction of the Gustorzyn CS.
The investment is implemented under the Special Purpose Act of 24 April 2009 on Investments Related to the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Regasification Terminal in Świnoujście (Journal of Laws of 2014, item 1501, as amended).
