The winter package won’t deprive the Polish power plants of coal

The new electricity market agreed during the trilogue in the European Union could mean a revolution on the Polish market. The change in the entries regarding the investment stage of a given coal-fired power plant project, where it can receive public aid, in the case of Poland’s capacity market, could result in the deprivation of energy companies that have already spent billions of PLNs on new generation capacities. Ultimately, however, at the conclusion of negotiations, the Polish side managed to ensure that all projects in the construction phase that will win power market auctions by the end of 2019 will receive support. For the project of Ostrołęka C Power Plant and other investments that are at an advanced stage of construction it means the possibility of using this mechanism – writes Bartłomiej Sawicki, editor of BiznesAlert.pl.

PGNiG: Final consent to buy Tommeliten Alpha interest from Equinor

PGNiG Upstream Norway AS obtained a consent of the Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to purchase over 42% shares in the Tommeliten Alpha filed from Equinor. The acquisition will allow to increase company’s gas production output from Norwegian portfolio by 0.5 bcm/year.

The LNG terminal in Świnoujście will be expanded

On 19 December 2018, Polskie LNG officially announced the commencement of the tender procedure to select a contractor for three key projects within the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal Expansion Program. These components include construction of the third LNG process storage tank, delivery of additional process installations increasing the regasification capacity, and the LNG transhipment installation together with a railway siding. The overall objective of the said projects is not only to increase Poland’s energy security, but also to allow Polskie LNG to offer new services to domestic and foreign customers alike.
