In 2025 the Baltic States will complete the synchronization of their power grid with the European system. This means they will also need to disconnect from the post-Soviet power network. Poland is the key to solving Baltic problems. However, Warsaw which is protecting its own interests, is not as interested in the synchronization as the Baltic States.
Northern Gateway: What we know
The Northern Gateway project pursued by the Polish gas transmission operator Gaz-System, is a key undertaking for the Polish gas market. Its implementation will diversify gas supplies not only in Poland, but also in Eastern and Central Europe and the Baltic States – more on this was discussed during a presentation „Northern Gateway and the Development of the Regional Natural Gas Market” on the 2017 Gas for Poland conference. The speaker was Paweł Jakubowski, head of Gaz System’s Development Division.
Nord Stream 2 delayed?
According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) the EC talks with Member States on granting it a negotiation mandate regarding Nord Stream 2 are coming to an end. The Commission will present the results in the next two to three weeks. The German daily also claims that Brussels may delay the project for months, or even years.
